SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Nov. 8) – Graduate student
Christopher Clark (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) won the individual title and set a new course record with a time of 31 minutes at the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by Slippery Rock University at Cooper's Lake Campground on Saturday.
The individual title marks the third of the season for Clark, a two-time PSAC West Athlete of the Week. The 6-1 graduate student won the 165-runner event by 23 seconds, finishing with a pace time of 5:00. With his finish at the regional race, Clark also earned a berth in the NCAA National Championship in two weeks on Nov. 22.
Clark helped lead the California University of Pennsylvania men's cross country team to a ninth-place overall finish, the highest regional finish by the Vulcans in over a decade.
Lock Haven University captured the regional title with 51 points after having three runners in the top 10 overall. Edinboro University (71 points) edged the host Rock (79 points) for second place, while Shippensburg University (83 points) and Bloomsburg University (148) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Graduate student Charles Kacsur III (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) was the second Cal U runner to cross the finish line, placing 49th overall in 34:22.
Andrew Amey and
Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) were the third and fourth scorers for the Vulcans with times of 34:31 and 35:18, respectively. Sophomore
Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) rounded out the scoring for the Vulcans after crossing the finish line at 35:26.
Freshman
David Klimchuk (35:53) and junior
Eric Reger (37:32) also competed at the regional race for Cal U.
Clark will represent the Vulcans at the NCAA National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22. The national championship race will also be hosted at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, Pa.
