KENOSHA, Wis. (Oct. 10) – Led by a sixth-place finish by freshman
Chris Werner (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch), the California University of Pennsylvania men’s cross country team finished third overall at the 5K Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
The Vulcans finished the five-team race with 64 points and featured three top-15 finishers. Chicago, a member of the University Athletic Association (UAA) in NCAA Division III, won the invitational title with 27 points, followed by Indianapolis (39), Cal U and Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.) (110). Mike Mangieri, who competed as an unattached individual, won the race with a time of 15 minutes, 59.9 seconds.
Werner crossed the finish line sixth overall in 16:20.7 and accounted for four points in the team standings. Sophomore
Christopher Poss (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) finished second for the Vulcans and 11th overall in 16:47.9 and junior
Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum ) was close behind at 14th overall with a time of 16:58.3.
Sophomore
Tim Lahmers (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) posted a time of 17:47.3 to finish 16th overall, while freshman
Gavin Volosky (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) rounded out the Cal U runners with a 19th-place finish and time of 18:54.8.
The Vulcans are idle for two weeks before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in Edinboro, Pa.
