KENOSHA, Wis. (Oct. 10) – Freshman
Erin Kling (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) finished 22nd overall in a field of 176 runners to lead the Vulcans at the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
Kling accounted for 17 points in the standings after finishing the race in 19 minutes, 10.6 seconds. The Jamestown, N.Y., native has posted the top time for the Vulcans in all four races she has run in this season.
As a team, the California University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team finished in 11th place at the 21-team invitational that featured several Division I programs. Ferris State (Mich.) won the team title with 60 points behind four top-20 finishers, highlighted by individual winner Tina Muir (17:45.8). DePaul (93) edged Marquette (97) for second place, while Eastern Illinois finished fourth with 124 points.
Junior
Bethany Stone (Susquehanna, Pa./Blue Ridge) finished second on the Vulcans and 66th overall with a time of 20:05.5, while senior
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) crossed the finish line 79th overall in 20:20.6. In her first race in almost two years, redshirt sophomore
Brittney Kanach (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) finished fourth for Cal U with a time of 20:42.4. Junior
Laurie Hall (Jackson, Pa./Blue Ridge) rounded out the scorers for the Vulcans by finishing the race in 20:47.9.
Freshman
Megan Kleiner (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) also competed at the invitational for Cal U, crossing the finish line in 21:36.6.
The Vulcans are idle for two weeks before competing at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Edinboro, Pa.
