LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 24) – Trailing 1-0 for most of the first half, the California University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer team rallied to win 2-1 on Saturday at Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

With their eighth win in the last 10 games, the Vulcans move to 11-5 overall and 3-5 in league action. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles drop to 5-10-2 this year with a 1-7 mark in divisional action.

Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when junior William Pasukinis scored off a cross from classmate Zach Miller. After halftime, Cal U evened the score at the 46:33-mark with a goal by senior Nick Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) with an assist to sophomore Steve Nese (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), 1-1. The Vulcans broke the tie in the 80th minute when junior Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo) scored his team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season off a pass from Nese.

Junior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) collected his eighth win of the season after making five saves and yielding only one goal on 14 shot attempts. Bald Eagles’ Chris Custer and Chad Badorf combined to post six saves in 90 minutes.

For the game, Cal U held a slim 15-14 advantage in shots and Lock Haven posted a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to non-conference play on Monday, Oct. 26, when they host Seton Hill for Senior Day. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Roadman Park.
