BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (Oct. 31) – Senior forward Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) moved into second place in career scoring at California University of Pennsylvania after tallying two goals on Saturday in the Vulcans’ 3-2 loss at West Virginia Wesleyan.

Cal U finished the regular season with a 12-7 overall record and a 3-5 mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play. The Vulcans entered the final week of the regular season ranked fourth in the NCAA Atlantic Region, but after losing two games this week they will have to wait until Monday, Nov. 9, to see if they received one of the four at-large berths in the region to play in the NCAA Tournament.

With his two goals on Saturday, Luecke tied former Cal U standout Nicholas Addlery for second place in school history with 52 career goals. Luecke has also registered 125 career points, surpassing Addlery (124) for second place all-time. Cal U Athletic Hall of Famer Tomas Boltnar is the school record holder in both career goals (62) and career points (180).

The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Luecke scored off a pass from forward Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo) before the Bobcats evened the score at the 28:09-mark on a goal by junior Michael Scruggs. Cal U regained the lead in the 35th minute when Souza again connected with Luecke for a goal, 2-1.

Souza leads the team with nine assists this year and ranks seventh in program history with 17 career assists.

Trailing for most of the second half, West Virginia Wesleyan tied the game at 2-2 when senior Brett Fackenthal scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute. The Bobcats then scored the game-winning goal in the final 47 seconds when sophomore Diego Michelato tallied his fourth goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) finished with four saves in the loss, while West Virginia Wesleyan's Andrew Baldasare registered seven saves.

The Bobcats out-shot the Vulcans by a slim 18-17 advantage while both teams attempted three corner kicks.
