CALIFORNIA (Oct. 31) – The Vulcans won a combined five events (four individual, one relay) on Saturday, as they earned dual victories over Edinboro (55-40) and West Virginia Wesleyan (58-35) at Hamer Hall.

Sophomore Melissa Gates (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) broke her own Hamer Hall pool record in the 50 freestyle by 12-tenths of a second, winning the event with a NCAA Championships “B” qualifying time of 23.97 seconds.

Freshman Georgia Emert (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) won the 200 IM with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying time of 2 minutes, 14.83 seconds. She also qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:02.49.

Classmate Bruna Carvalho (Para, Brazil/Miltom Campos) claimed a win in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:00.55. She also qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 200 IM by finishing second with a time of 2:17.19.

In the 1000 freestyle, freshman Milica Marjanovic (Maglic, Serbia/Medical 7 April) won the event by over six seconds with a time of 11:09.44. Meanwhile, classmate Kelly Geras (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) qualified for the PSAC Championships and finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.51.

Freshman Caitlyn Sirkoch (Plum, Pa./Plum) qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:10.20.

The Vulcans also captured a victory in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Emert, Sirkoch, Carvalho and Gates won the event by over two seconds with a time of 1:51.47.

Cal U returns action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when they travel to face Gannon in Erie, Pa.
