LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 10) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team placed four players on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Team, announced the league office on Tuesday.
Seniors
Nick Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley),
Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and
Justin Taucher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), along with junior goalkeeper
Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park), have now earned All-PSAC honors multiple times in their careers.
Luecke, a 5-11 forward, led the Vulcans and finished second in the PSAC this season with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists. A three-year starter, he also ranks among the league leaders in goals, assists and shots. Luecke finished his career as one of the premier offensive players in Cal U history, as he registered 125 points in his career on 52 goals and 21 assists.
Taucher posted a banner year in 2009, setting career highs with seven goals, six assists and 20 points. The 5-7 midfielder was one of only five players to start all 19 games this season for the Vulcans.
One of the top defenders in the league, Helbig earned All-PSAC West laurels for a second-straight season. He ranked fourth on the team with six goals and 12 points after scoring three goals on penalty kicks. Over the last seasons, Helbig scored a combined 13 goals and helped anchor a defensive unit that has registered 10 shutouts.
A three-year starter at goalie, Yobbi garnered All-PSAC West accolades after posting a 1.58 goals-against average (GAA) and .727 save percentage in 17 games (16 starts). He recorded two shutouts this season and finished with an 8-4-0 record in net.
In a change voted on by the conference coaches, there is now only one All-PSAC team for each division instead of two All-PSAC teams for each division.
Cal U finished the year with a 12-7 overall record and ranked fifth in the final regular-season NCAA Atlantic Region poll. Each member of the senior class played pivotal roles in last year's PSAC Tournament Championship – the first tournament title in program history.
