LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 10) – California University of Pennsylvania senior outside hitter
Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year on Tuesday.
Nist helped lead the Vulcans to a 3-0 record last week with conference wins over IUP and Mercyhurst. Cal U finished the regular season with a 30-5 overall record and a perfect 19-0 mark in league play. Last week, the 5-10 outside hitter averaged a team-best 4.27 kills per set on .314 hitting and also collected 3.73 digs per set.
The two-time Daktronics Atlantic Region Player of the Year, Nist registered nine kills with a .444 hitting percentage and 12 digs on Senior Night in a 3-0 sweep of IUP. On Friday, the former Rockwood standout established season highs with 24 kills and 23 digs for her 18th kill/dig double-double of the season in a 3-2 win at Ashland. She closed the week with a 14-kill, six-dig performance at Mercyhurst in the final match of the regular season.
Nist finished the regular season as the PSAC's leader with 3.77 kills per set and also ranks among the league leaders with a .284 hitting percentage. She also is third on the Vulcans in service aces (0.31) and digs (3.24).
Nist and Cal U open post-season play tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 10, as the Vulcans host Gannon at Hamer Hall in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament.
