INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 15) – After earning the league's automatic qualifier for winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament last night, the Vulcans were selected the top seed in the region and the host for the eight-team 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament. The tournament will be hosted at Hamer Hall, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 12 p.m.
The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team received their fifth-consecutive bid and eighth overall to the tournament by posting a 33-5 overall record. The two-time defending Atlantic Regional champion Vulcans will face Chowan (N.C.), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) champion, on Thursday in the first round.
The other opening round matches include second-seeded Lock Haven (30-5) against Mercyhurst (20-12), third-seeded Clarion (26-9) versus Edinboro (22-12) and fourth-seeded Gannon (22-9) against Wheeling Jesuit (32-5), the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) champion.
