CALIFORNIA (Nov. 17) - California University of Pennsylvania senior forward
Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and junior midfielder
Carina Honeygosky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were selected to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Teams on Tuesday.
Heister was an All-Atlantic First-Team selection after leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with 18 goals and 40 points, both career highs. Last week, she was selected the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and earned All-PSAC West honors for a fourth-straight year. Heister has already established new career school records for both goals and points, breaking the marks previously set by
Sherry Valera (1992-95) and
Brianne Plute (2000-03).
In her first year with the program, Honeygosky earned second-team all-region laurels after leading the Vulcans and ranking second in the PSAC with nine assists this year. The nine assists is tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in program history and is the most since
Audrey Dawson collected 11 assists in 1995.
Heister and Honeygosky have played pivotal roles in the historic 2009 season for Cal U. This year, the Vulcans have won a school record 18 games en route to capturing their first-ever PSAC West title. After playing in its first PSAC Tournament, Cal U earned its first at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament and has advanced to Round of 16.
The Vulcans continue play in the NCAA Tournament with a third-round game on Friday, Nov. 20, when they face rival IUP in Loudonville, N.Y., at 1 p.m.
