Daktronics Division II All-America Teams (.pdf)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 1) – California University of Pennsylvania senior defender
Nick Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) was named a Daktronics NCAA Division II Third-Team All-American on Tuesday, as voted on by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Helbig finished among the team leaders with six goals after scoring on three penalty kicks. A three-year starter, he was a key member of the Vulcans’ backline that allowed less than two goals per game and registered four shutouts.
In the last three years, Helbig has helped the Vulcans post a 35-22-5 overall record (.605) with the program’s first-ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament Championship in 2008. As a starter, the Chartiers Valley product has started 58 of 60 games with at last 17 starts from 2007-09.
For his career, Helbig scored 14 goals (four penalty kicks) in 66 games. He was an All-PSAC West selection in both 2008 and 2009 and received Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention last year.
Helbig was one of only five players from the PSAC to receive All-America honors (three teams, honorable mention) from Daktronics.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
