DiMatteo earns All-America Honorable Mention

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (May 22) – California University of Pennsylvania junior outfielder Sam DiMatteo (Center, Pa./Center) was named to the Daktronics, Inc., All-America Honorable Mention Team on Friday, as voted on by the members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

DiMatteo posted a career year in 2009, leading the team and setting new single-season school records with 57 runs scored and 40 stolen bases. He finished with a .405 batting average (70-for-173) with 12 doubles, two triples, 12 homers and 50 RBI. The 5-11 outfielder ranks among the conference leaders in average, runs scored, homers and slugging percentage (.705).

A two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division First Team selection, DiMatteo is a .364 (151-for-415) career hitter with 23 doubles, eight triples, 20 homers and 108 RBI. He enters his senior season only eight stolen bases away from breaking the school record of 79 steals, which was set this year by outfielder Jon Selby (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton).
