MARIETTA, Ohio (Sept. 12) – California University of Pennsylvania junior transfer
Jordan Atha (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) captured the individual title on Saturday, as the Vulcans posted a consecutive second-place finish at the seven-team Carl Broughton Invitational, which was hosted by Marietta College (Ohio).
Cal U totaled 49 points with five top-20 finishers and finished only behind invitational champion Otterbein (44). Saint Vincent finished third with 69 points, while the host Pioneers totaled 99 points.
Atha, who finished fourth in her first Cal U race last weekend, won the invitational with a time of 19 minutes, 28.88 seconds. She won the 66-runner event by almost 21 seconds. Atha is the first Cal U women’s cross country runner to earn an individual crown in recent program history.
Sophomore
Alison Richard (Erie, Pa./McDowell) crossed the finish line sixth overall at 20:32.24, while junior
Bethany Stone (Susquehanna, Pa./Blue Ridge) finished ninth with a time of 20:46.34.
Junior
Laurie Hall (Jackson, Pa./Blue Ridge) posted a 14th-place finish with a time of 21:12.27, while
Tricia Learn (Troy, Pa./Homeschooled) rounded out the Vulcan scorers by crossing the finish line in 21:34.01.
Freshman
Carly Youngeberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) posted a time of 22:04.82 in her first college race, while classmate
Megan Kleiner (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) finished the race in 22:31.97. Newcomer
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) finished 32nd overall in 22:33.39 and freshman
Catherine Gregory (Winchester, Va./Sherando) crossed the finish line in 22:53.05.
Cal U continues its season on Saturday, Sept. 19, when it travels to Erie for the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
