Kling, Vulcans win title at PSU Behrend

ERIE (Sept. 19) – California University of Pennsylvania freshman Erin Kling (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) earned her first college individual crown with a course-record time on Saturday, as the Vulcans earned their first invitational title in over 20 years at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday.

Cal U finished the 12-team event with 30 points behind four top-10 finishers. The average time for the top seven Vulcans at the event was 24 minutes, 38 seconds. Host Penn State Behrend finished second at the event with 77 points, followed by Westminster (Pa.) and Mount Union with 90 and 109 points, respectively.

Kling posted her first career invitational title in only her second college race with a time of 23:35. She won the 110-runner event by nine seconds. In her two races with the Vulcans, Kling has finished second at the 38th-annual Cal U Invitational and first at the PSU Behrend Invitational.

Sophomore Alison Richard Erie, Pa./McDowell) and junior Jordan Atha (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) posted back-to-back finishes on Saturday by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Richard crossed the finish line in 24:27 and Atha posted a time of 24:34. Junior Bethany Stone (Susquehanna, Pa./Blue Ridge) finished seventh overall at 24:48, while senior Tricia Learn (Troy, Pa./Homeschooled) rounded out the Vulcan scorers with a 13th-place time of 25:45.

Junior Laurie Hall (Jackson, Pa./Blue Ridge) finished 18th at Penn State Behrend with a time of 25:59, while freshman Megan Kleiner (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) crossed the finish line in 26:36 to place 27th overall. Fellow freshman Catherine Gregory also ran on Saturday, finishing 33rd overall in 26:39.

In three meets this season, the Vulcans have claimed an invitational title and posted two second-place finishes.

Cal U continues its season on Saturday, Sept. 26, when it travels to Latrobe, Pa., for the Saint Vincent Invitational.
