KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 11) – California University of Pennsylvania standouts
Dominique Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington/Cheyney) and
Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) each played in the Valero Cactus Bowl on Friday when the West suffered a 16-0 loss to the East at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The game, which featured 12 representatives from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), was a defensive battle as the East scored the game’s only touchdown early in the second quarter before adding a pair of field goals before halftime. The East then kicked another field goal early in the fourth to take a 16-0 lead.
Johnson finished fourth on the East squad with four tackles (all solo) – all in the first half.
Curry posted one reception for eight yards and also had a rushing attempt in the senior all-star game. He caught his pass from Nick Graziano of Arkansas Tech on a fourth-and-two from near midfield in the final minute of the second quarter.
Senior wide receiver
AJ Jackson (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh/Sequoias) attended the all-star festivities in Texas, but did not participate in the game due to injury.
West quarterback Billy Garza of host Texas A&M-Kingsville was named Offensive MVP after passing for 146 yards on 15-of-27 attempts with one touchdown. Garza split time at quarterback with Edinboro’s Trevor Harris, who completed 10-of-13 passes for 97 yards with one interception.
West Chester linebacker Sam Scott earned Defensive MVP laurels after tying a bowl-record with 14 tackles (nine) and registering two forced fumbles.
