Brooque Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) earned her third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week honor of the year on Monday following her performance in road crossover wins over Cheyney and Shippensburg. It also marks the 11th time in her career that she has received the weekly award.
The 5-8 senior averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals in the two victories. She shot an impressive 57.1 percent (20-of-35) from the field and also made 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free-throw line over the weekend.
Against Cheyney, Williams netted 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and six-of-seven from the charity stripe. She also added six rebounds (three offensive), three assists and four steals against the Wolves. On Sunday, the Pittsburgh native set a season high with 30 points and collected nine rebounds (four offensive), five assists and four steals in a comeback victory at Shippensburg. Williams scored 23 of her season-high 30 points in the second half and finished the game 13-of-21 from the field.
On the season, Williams leads the Vulcans and is tied for second in the league in scoring with 20.5 points per game. She also leads the 16-team conference with 3.3 steals per game and ranks among the league leaders with 9.2 rebounds per game (fourth) and a .507 field-goal percentage (fifth).
The Vulcans open defense of their PSAC West title at undefeated and nationally-ranked Gannon on Wednesday, Jan. 13, in a rematch of last year's Sweet 16. Tip-off at the Hammermill Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
