CLARION, Pa. (Jan. 28) – The California University of Pennsylvania football team featured nine players, including six first-team selections, on the All-Super Region One Teams as selected by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette on Wednesday. The Vulcans led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and ranked second in the region in terms of the number of players selected.

In addition to the six first-team honorees, the Vulcans had one player selected to the second team and two players named to the third team.

Senior cornerback Terrence Johnson (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) and senior defensive lineman Willie Walker (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) were selected to the Football Gazette all-region teams for a third-straight season. Both players also received first-team laurels last year.

Graduate student linebacker Dontey Brown (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport/Penn State), senior wide receiver AJ Jackson (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh/Sequoias), Terrence Johnson, graduate student offensive lineman Cha’Mar Jones (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa), junior offensive lineman Dan Jordan (Tionesta, Pa./Redbank Valley) and Walker all received first-team all-region accolades.

Brown led the team and ranked fifth in the PSAC with a career-high 106 tackles (60 solo), becoming the first Cal U player since Lloyd Price in 2005 to post 100 tackles in a season. He also registered 10.0 tackles for loss (TFL), 3.0 sacks, two pass break-ups and one fumble recovery.

Jackson posted the top season of any receiver in school history, setting school records with 101 receptions, 1,424 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. The All-American wide receiver ranked second in NCAA Division II in receiving yards and third in both receptions and touchdowns.

Johnson ranked fifth on the team with a career-high 56 tackles (39 solo) and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. The former Woodland Hills standout finished his career among the school’s all-time leaders with 16 interceptions and 35 pass break-ups.

Jones and Jordan anchored the left side of an offensive line that allowed only 23 sacks on 424 pass attempts this season, while clearing lanes for a rushing offense that averaged 177.2 yards per game. Both Jones and Jordan started all 15 games this season and have combined for 57 over the last two years.

Walker registered 42 stops (24 solo) with 9.5 TFL and 4.0 sacks this year en route to being selected the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year. A two-time national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, he finished his career as the school’s leader with 31.5 TFL.

Graduate student punter Derek Fiorenza (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan/Villanova) earned second-team honors from Football Gazette. In his second year with the program, he averaged 39.1 yards per punt and placed 18 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

Sophomore linebacker Brett Diamond (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) and graduate student quarterback Josh Portis (Woodland Hills, Calif./William H. Taft/Maryland) garnered third-team status this year.

Portis set single-season school records with 3,421 passing yards and 36 touchdowns while completing 224-of-407 attempts. He ranked among the national leaders with a passing efficiency of 150.41 in his first year with the Vulcans.

A two-year starter, Diamond posted 64 tackles (35 solo) with 8.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks and three interceptions. He also was an All-PSAC West First-Team selection in 2009.

The Football Gazette has selected NCAA Division II all-region teams for eight-straight years and the national publication has selected NCAA Division II All-America teams since 1988.

The first- and second-team honorees advance to the national ballot from which the Football Gazette All-America teams will be selected from shortly.
