EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 30) – The Vulcans qualified four new entries for the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships and won five events, including two by junior All-American Brice Myers (Pittsburgh, Pa./McDowell), on Saturday as they competed at the unscored Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro.

Myers captured first-place finishes in both the 60-meter hurdles and triple jump. In the 60-meter hurdles, he tied his season-best time of 8.21 seconds, which is a provisional mark for the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The former McDowell standout also won the triple jump with a distance of 12.54 meters (41-1 3/4 feet).

Freshman Travis Mitro (Dormont, Pa./Keystone Oaks) qualified for the PSAC Championships on Saturday with a leap of 6.60 meters (21-8 feet) in the long jump to finish in second place.

Fellow newcomer Chris Werner (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) finished second in the 1-mile run and qualified for the league championships after crossing the finish line in 4 minutes, 29.44 seconds.

Werner also was a member of the winning 4x800-meter relay at Edinboro. Junior Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum), Werner and freshmen Aaron Roe (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and Gavin Volosky (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) finished with a time of 8:25.75 to win the event by over 10 seconds.

Junior Rickie Watson (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) claimed a first-place finish in the 800-meter run after posting a time of 2:04.26 while freshman Da’Joun Heidelberg (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.89 seconds.

Newcomer Dwight Phillips (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) qualified for the PSAC Championships after finishing with a time of 22.94 seconds in the 200 meters.

About a dozen Vulcans will be competing at the Hoosier Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Bloomington, Ind.
