Vulcan relay qualifies for NCAA at PSACs

MECHANISBURG, Pa. (Feb. 18) – The Vulcans qualified their 400 freestyle relay for the NCAA Championships on Thursday in the first night of the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Cumberland Valley High School.

In a time trial on the opening night, the relay team of sophomore Melissa Gates (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), senior Rachel Kurta (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette), freshman Kelly Geras (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and graduate student Ester Bosch (Barcelona, Spain/Universidad Ramon Illull) qualified for the NCAA Championships in March with a time of 3 minutes, 29.79 seconds.

Freshman Megan Schuh (Spokane, Wash./Moses Lake) also competed in the league championships on Thursday, posting a season-best time of 11:04.65 in the 1000 freestyle.

The California University of Pennsylvania swimming team continues competition at the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 19.
