BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Feb. 6) – Highlighted by senior
Frank Ehrensberger (Saint Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) and junior
Brice Myers (Pittsburgh, Pa./McDowell) posting individual wins with season-best times, the California University of Pennsylvania men’s track & field team competed on Saturday at the Indiana Hoosier Invitational.
Ehrensberger won the 400-meter dash by four-hundredths of a second with a time of 48.90 seconds, which ranks as the third-best time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season. The senior tri-captain narrowly missed both the indoor school record and the provisional mark for the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships. Ehrensberger also finished tied for second place in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 22.34 seconds.
Myers improved his NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time by finishing the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.11 seconds. With the conversion to the 55-meter hurdles, his time ranks as the fastest by any athlete in the PSAC this season. An All-American last year, Myers finished second in the quarterfinals with a time of 8.19 seconds before winning in the finals.
In the 800-meter run, freshman
Aaron Roe (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) qualified for the PSAC Championships and finished sixth overall with a time of 1 minute, 57.75 seconds. Classmate
Brandon Claypool (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) also posted a season-best performance in the pole vault by clearing 4.35 meters (14-3 1/4 feet).
The Vulcans featured back-to-back finishes in the one-mile run as graduate student
Eric Reger (Manor, Pa./Hempfield) and junior
Tony Russo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) finished third and fourth, respectively. Reger crossed the finish line in 4:30.96, while Russo posted a time of 4:32.49.
The relay of Russo, Roe, freshman
Gavin Volosky (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) and Reger finished with a time of 11:05.82 in the distance medley to qualify for the PSAC Championships.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13, when it competes at the Gold-Blue Meet hosted by West Virginia in Morgantown.
