LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (March 9) – The California University of Pennsylvania baseball team swept the weekly Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West honors on Tuesday afternoon, as sophomore outfielder Troy Handza (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) was selected the PSAC West Hitter of the Week and redshirt sophomore Randy Sturgill (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Handza posted a .444 average (8-for-18) with five runs, four RBI and four steals last week for the Vulcans, who posted a 4-1 record after splitting a doubleheader at Mars Hills and sweeping a three-game series against West Liberty.

In the win against the Lions, Handza went 2-for-4 with one double, two runs and a steal. On Saturday in the doubleheader versus West Liberty, he went a combined 3-7 with a solo homer in an 11-5 win in Game 2. The 6-3 outfielder closed the series against the Hilltoppers by going 2-4 with three RBI, one run and two steals.

Sturgill anchored the Vulcan pitching staff during the 4-1 week by throwing a pair of compete games. The 6-1 left-hander posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 14.0 innings on the mound after allowing only one unearned run. He also demonstrated superior control with 13 strikeouts compared to one walk in his two outings last week.

In a seven-inning complete game last Monday, he scattered five hits and allowed only a single unearned run with no walks in 7.0 innings. Sturgill then threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout against West Liberty, walking one and striking out nine.
