ATLANTA (March 22) – California University of Pennsylvania senior guard
Brooque Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) was named to the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team as selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Monday night. Junior forward
Kayla Smith (Elkins, W.Va./Elkins) also received WBCA All-America Honorable Mention on Monday.
The all-time leading scorer in school history, Williams becomes just the second player in program history to receive the All-America honor more than once. She finished the season ranked second in the conference at 21.2 points per game and eighth in rebounding at 8.4 per game. The Pittsburgh native also led the league and was among the nation's elite with 4.0 steals per game.
Williams finished her career ranked third all-time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in scoring with 2,205 points. She is one of only seven players in league history to finish their careers with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. The three-time All-PSAC West First-Team selection and 2009 PSAC West Player of the Year set an all-time PSAC record with 424 steals, which is tied for 10th in NCAA Division II history.
Smith received All-America Honorable Mention for the second-straight year after averaging a double-double for the first time in her career. She led the PSAC and ranked fourth nationally with 11.9 rebounds per game. Smith also ranked among the league leaders after averaging 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks and 34.1 minutes per game this season. She posted 25 double-doubles this year, which ranks third in NCAA Division II single-season history and only three off the national record.
