LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (April 14) – Following her record-setting performance over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania graduate student
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
McSweeney set the outdoor school record in the 800-meter run while competing at the North Carolina Joe Hilton Fast Times in Chapel Hill, N.C. She crossed the finish line fourth overall in a field of primarily Division I runners with a time of 2 minutes, 10.23 seconds. Tar Heels' junior Dominique Jackson won the 27-runner event at the Fast Times after posting a time of 2:07.93.
A native of Ireland, McSweeney improved her NCAA Division II Championship provisional-qualifying mark after running the second-fastest time in the country this season. She also boasts the fastest time in the PSAC in 2010 and eclipsed the previous school-best mark of 2:12.02 set two years ago by
Holly Urban.
This marks the second weekly PSAC honor for McSweeney this season, as she received the accolade during this past indoor campaign.
