CALIFORNIA (April 6) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team will host the professional Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer League (USL) on Thursday, April 8, at Adamson Stadium.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and admission to the game is free.
The Vulcans have played the Riverhounds several times since the professional team was founded in 1999. In the last two years the exhibition game between the two teams have ended in 1-1 ties.
“We take this as a tremendous opportunity to challenge ourselves in every aspect of the game,” said Cal U head men's soccer coach
Dennis Laskey. “Our players get to see how the pros prepare themselves for a game and how they execute with consistency.”
The exhibition game will be the third this spring for both teams, as Cal U lost 1-0 to Pittsburgh and tied Duquesne at 0-0. Meanwhile, the Riverhounds have defeated both Pitt and Robert Morris.
The game will feature a meeting of several former Chartiers Valley High School teammates, as Riverhounds' Adam Gazda and Travis MacKenize will play against Vulcans' Brian Braithwaite,
Nick Helbig,
Justin Taucher and
Jake Gazda, who is a younger cousin of Adam.
Following the game, the Riverhounds will be available for autographs and photos.
