LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (May 11) – After winning a combined three events over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania sophomore
Shakeria Love (York, Pa./York Central) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Love won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, along with being a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay, on Saturday while competing at the Lock Haven Last Chance Qualifier. She captured first place in the 400 meters after posting a career-best time of 57.84 seconds, which ranks as the fifth-fastest time in the PSAC this season. The York, Pa., native also earned the title in the 200 meters after crossing the finish line in 26.78 seconds, winning the event by over four tenths of a second. Love was also a member of the Vulcans' 4x100 relay that won the race in a time of 50.92 seconds.
A 5-5 sophomore, Love has qualified for this week's PSAC Outdoor Championships as an individual in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. During this year's indoor championships, she finished sixth overall in the finals of the 400 meters and was the opening leg of the 4x400-meter relay that placed third in the event.
This marks the first career PSAC award for Love, who is the third different Cal U athlete to earn PSAC Track Athlete of the Week laurels this year as graduate student
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) and junior
Brice Myers (Pittsburgh, Pa./McDowell) each received the honor three times.
Love and the Vulcans return to action at the PSAC Championships from May 13-15. The three-day event is being hosted by West Chester at John A. Farrell Stadium. For information about the league championships, please click
