CHARLOTTE (May 29) – California University of Pennsylvania graduate student
Clare McSweeney (Cork, Ireland/St. Aloysius) became the third All-American in program history on Saturday evening while competing at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in the third and final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.
McSweeney broke her own school record by finishing sixth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 8.63 seconds. She previously established the school-best mark earlier this month when she won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in the 800 meters. McSweeney completed in the finals with 18 runners in two heats following the postponement of yesterday's preliminary race. Junior Anja Puc of Nebraska-Omaha won the individual National Championship after running a time of 2:04.25, the fastest time in the Division II this season.
A native of Ireland, McSweeney joins
Christine Czaja (discus) and
Danielle Malay (400-meter dash) as the only NCAA All-Americans in Cal U women's track & field history.
In addition to McSweeney, the Vulcans' 4x400-meter relay competed at the NCAA National Championships late Saturday night. The relay of sophomores
