LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (June 10) – Following her stellar rookie season, California University of Pennsylvania newcomer Maria Lopez (Bogota, Colombia/English School) was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Freshman of the Year on Thursday afternoon.

Lopez posted the team-best finish in six tournaments this season and finished in the top 10 of the leaderboard eight times. She helped the Vulcans repeat as PSAC Champions and qualify as a team for the NCAA National Championships for the first time in program history.

A native of Colombia, Lopez finished the season with a team-best scoring average of 78.6 strokes after playing all 12 events. During the spring campaign, she finished second overall at the PSAC Championships and one week later carded a third-place finish at the NCAA Super Regional One Championships.

This marks the second-straight season in which Cal U has featured the PSAC Freshman of the Year, as Dianne Luke (Mirisarawak, Malaysia/Saint Columba) earned the award last season.
