Vulcans rank No. 12 in final NFCA poll

STARKVILLE, Miss. (June 8) – For the second-straight season, the California University of Pennsylvania softball team finished the season ranked in the Top 25 of the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. After appearing in the NCAA Super Atlantic Regional for the first time in program history, the Vulcans moved up to a No. 12 ranking in the final poll.

The Vulcans finished the year with a 37-14 overall record after claiming a consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (West) title and posting runner-up finishes in the PSAC and NCAA Super Regional Tournaments. Since the expansion and realignment of the PSAC, Cal U has compiled an overall record of 72-24 (.750) and a divisional mark of 28-2 (.933) over the last two seasons.

Cal U posted a combined record of 7-5 in the PSAC and NCAA Tournament and made its 19th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Vulcans were one of only two teams from the PSAC to finish the season in the final NFCA Top 25 Poll.

Under 16-year head coach Rick Bertagnolli, Cal U opened the season ranked No. 9 in the preseason poll and were ranked in the last six polls this year after battling back from a 3-7 start to the season.
