Vulcans ranked No. 8 in first NSCAA poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 10) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team earned a No. 8 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA)/adidas® preseason Top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The Vulcans return 10 starters from last year's team that finished with a 19-6-1 overall record, crushing the previous school record for victories. Cal U ranked No. 9 in the final NSCAA poll after advancing to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament in its first-ever post-season appearance.

Defending-National Champion Grand Valley State is the preseason favorite, while West Florida and Saint Rose (N.Y.) are second and third in the poll, respectively. The Vulcans are one of three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) programs ranked in the preseason Top 25 poll. Defending-conference champion West Chester begins the season ranked No. 16 and PSAC runner-up Kutztown opens the year at No. 22.

Cal U begins the regular season on Sept. 2 when it travels to face Seton Hill before returning to Roadman Park for three-straight games. With the elimination of the Western and Eastern Divisions in the PSAC (soccer only) this season, the Vulcans will play all 14 league opponents once.
