CALIFORNIA (Nov. 30) – California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball head coach Mark Swasey announced on Wednesday that the Vulcans have received commitments from three future student-athletes, as guard
Jasmine Hill, forward
Ayonna Richardson and guard
Caela Tindilia committed to the program during the early national signing period.
"We are ecstatic about the addition of these three talented student athletes,” said Swasey. “Each of them has been very successful during their high school and AAU careers.”
Hill, a three-year varsity starter and letter-winner at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia, Md., has averaged 20.3 points per game through her junior season. The 6-0 guard was a Washington Post all-metro selection and Howard County Player of the Year as a junior. She has career averages of 11.2 rebounds and a state-leading 4.5 steals per game.
"Jasmine will bring a long and athletic presence to our wing position. We see Jasmine as someone who can fill up the stat sheet in many ways,” said Swasey. “She is going to have the ability to stretch defenses with her great three-point shot, which will allow her to use her speed and athleticism attacking the hoop. Jasmine led the state of Maryland in steals last year and will be great in our attacking-style defense.”
Richardson is a 6-2 forward from Waldorf, Md., who was an all-conference selection as a junior at Thomas Stone High School. Averaging 16.3 points, 16.2 rebounds and 5.3 blocks per game, Richardson helped lead her team to the second round of the state tournament. Richardson was also a prep volleyball standout, being named to the all-conference team as a junior.
"Ayonna is a super athlete who plays the post position; her length and athletic ability will give her the chance to make a major impact at the college level as a freshman,” said Swasey. “We are just thrilled about the impact Ayonna can make here at Cal U. Not only does she bring great physical tools with her to the basketball floor, but she is a natural leader and has a competitive fire that is second to none.”
Tindilia is a 5-3 guard from Bel Air High School in Bel Air, Md. She was sidelined for all but five games during her junior season due to a physical illness and was still named all-conference honorable mention. Tindilia had a great summer on the AAU circuit averaging 10 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals per game for Maryland Elite AAU.
“Caela will give us some much needed speed and playing-making ability at the point guard position. She is a blur in transition and has the ability to create some great scoring opportunities for her teammates. At the high school and AAU levels Caela has truly been a one-man fastbreak and has great instincts with the ball in her hands,” said Swasey. “On the defensive end, Caela has some of the best on-ball instincts we as a staff saw all summer. We see Caela having the ability to really disrupt the opposing teams' point guards by making them have to work in getting the ball up the floor. We are really excited to see Caela in a Cal U uniform next season.”
