Goin earns weekly conference laurel

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 27) – Following an impressive college debut over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania freshman Kira Goin (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Dawson College) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Goin won a combined three events (two individual) in dual matches against Wheeling Jesuit and host Notre Dame (Ohio) on Saturday. She earned a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.23 seconds to win by under two-tenths of a second. The 5-foot-6 freshman also broke a five-year pool record in the 100 butterfly by almost nine-tenths of a second after touching the wall in 59.40 seconds to win the event by nearly three seconds.
 
A native of Quebec, Goin was also the second leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay team that posted a time of 3 minutes, 47.29 seconds to win the event by almost five seconds.
 
Cal U returns to action on Friday, Oct. 30, with dual matches against Shippensburg and host Fairmont State at 5 p.m.
