SURPRISE, Ariz. (May 13) – The No. 12 Vulcans were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 loss in the Round of 16 against No. 14 Midwestern State (Tex.) late Wednesday night.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team finishes the year at 15-4 overall. The Vulcans were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament prior to the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign. Meanwhile, the Mustangs improve to 18-6 overall and will face No. 18 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) in the quarterfinals tomorrow, Thursday, May 14.

Mariela Sarinana (Mexico City, Mexico/Miraflores) claimed an 8-4 victory over Lindsay Nochowicz and Lauren Pineda.
The Mustangs, which won the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championship, extended their winning streak to six matches by winning all three completed singles matches. Sarinana suffered her first loss in over a month by falling 6-0, 6-1 at the fourth position to Courtney Anderson. Freshman
Alice Johns (Northampton, England/Northampton) was downed at fifth singles by a 6-1, 6-3 count by Boykin and Dimmer then suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Schorlemmer, as the match was clinched at third singles.
With her play on Wednesday, Czakon closed her career with a staggering 94 wins in doubles play and 78 victories in singles action, both of which are the most in the recent era of the program. In addition, Burrell matched her previous career total with 19 victories in doubles this season.
