LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Jan. 24) – After capturing four victories (two relay) over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania sophomore
Kira Goin (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Dawson College) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Goin helped the Vulcans earn the invitational title at its home event while also setting a meet record at the California Invitational. She won the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 58.94 seconds, which broke the meet record set by
Bruna Carvalho in 2011 by over eight-tenths of a second. Goin also posted a time of 2 minutes, 13.26 seconds in the 200 butterfly to claim the victory.
A native of Ontario, Goin was the anchor on the 200 freestyle relay that won the event by over 3.5 seconds with a time of 1:43.09. She also was a member of the 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:53.67 to claim the victory by almost 5.5 seconds.
Goin boasts times in three events which rank among the top 20 in the PSAC this season. She sits No. 13 in the league in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:11.66, while her performance in the 100 butterfly over the week ranks No. 15. Goin also ranks No. 18 in the PSAC in the 50 freestyle this year with a time of 24.64 seconds.
A 5-foot-6 sophomore, Goin received PSAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time in her career.
In their final event before the PSAC Championships, the Vulcans compete at Western Pennsylvania Invitational hosted by Pitt at Trees Pool on Saturday, Jan. 28.
