CALIFORNIA (Nov. 13) – Senior
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) recorded her 12th double-double of the season on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center, as the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17) against Clarion in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 28-6 overall and advance to the semifinals of the league tournament. Cal U will face rival Lock Haven - the top seed from the PSAC East - on Friday, Nov. 16, in Erie, Pa., as Gannon secured hosting rights for the remainder of the tournament. The Vulcans have won three-straight meetings against the Bald Eagles in the PSAC Tournament, all in the league finals (2008-09, 2011).
Fromknecht totaled 11 kills and 28 assists on Tuesday night for her team-leading 12th double-double of the year. She also recorded nine digs, five blocks and four service aces in the victory.
Senior middle hitter
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team with 14 kills on a .583 hitting percentage. Classmates
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) and
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. In addition to Fromknecht, junior
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) directed the offense with 17 assists.

Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) paced the defense with 20 digs and added three service aces. Senior
Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) collected eight digs, while Freund and Harris both recorded seven digs against the Golden Eagles. Freshman
Miranda Fouzie (Kingston, Ontario/Sydenham) and Franz each added three blocks in the victory.
With the loss, Clarion falls to 23-11 after making its fourth-consecutive appearance in the PSAC Tournament.
