Cal U places three on all-region teams

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 28) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team recently featured three players on the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Teams, including senior middle hitter Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) who earned all-region honors from the organization for a third-straight year.

Franz received first-team all-region laurels from Daktronics for a consecutive season, while fellow seniors Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) earned second-team accolades. With her first-team selection, Franz is now eligible for Daktronics All-America honors.

Franz leads the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a career-high .383 hitting percentage, which ranks as the third-best mark in single-season school history.  She ranks second on the team with 2.38 kills/set and is fourth in the league with 1.04 blocks/set. A four-year starter, Franz holds the all-time school record with 487 blocks and ranks eighth in school history with 1,119 career kills.

A three-time All-PSAC West selection, Fromknecht ranks second on the team and fifth in the league with a .299 hitting percentage. She has already established career highs this season with 586 assists, 229 digs and 33 service aces, while eclipsing 100 blocks for the second-straight year. Fromknecht has recorded 12 double-doubles this season, including five triple-doubles.

Harris leads the team and ranks fifth in the PSAC with 3.08 kills/set. She is second on the team with 2.78 digs/set and has totaled 10 kill/dig double-doubles this season. Harris is one of six players in school history with 1,000 kills and 800 digs in a career.

The Vulcans, who are the third-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, begin play in the NCAA Tournament tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 29, when they face Shippensburg in Wheeling, W.Va., at 12 p.m.
