CALIFORNIA (Feb. 22) – The California University of Pennsylvania football team will be represented at the NFL Combine for the second-straight year, as former offensive lineman
Rishaw Johnson (Hammond, La./Hammond) was invited to participate at the week-long event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., starting Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Johnson joins quarterback
Josh Portis (2009-10) as the only two players in school history to attend the NFL Combine. Johnson is one of only five players from non-FBS programs invited to attend the annual event, which is attended by the top executives, coaching staffs and player personnel departments from all 32 NFL teams.
After previously playing at Ole Miss, Johnson established himself as a dominant offensive lineman at the NCAA Division II level. He started 12 games at right guard in 2011 and was selected as one of the team's captains.
A 6-5, 310-pound senior, Johnson was named a D2Football.com First-Team All-American and received All-America Honorable Mention from Don Hansen. Last month, he was chosen to participate in both the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl against the top seniors from across the country.
Johnson is one of 55 offensive linemen, including 17 guards, scheduled to work out at the NFL Combine. Among the notable offensive linemen attending this year's NFL Combine are USC's Matt Kalil, Stanford's David DeCastro and Michigan's Rimington Trophy-winner David Molk. Johnson and Midwestern State tackle Amini Silatolu are the only two linemen from non-FBS programs invited to the event.
The NFL Combine airs live on the NFL Network, starting on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The 2012 NFL Draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York, N.Y., on April 26-28 and will broadcast live on a variety of ESPN outlets and the NFL Network. Last year, cornerback
Tommie Campbell was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round to become the first Cal U player drafted in over 30 years.
