WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 17) – The No. 12 Vulcans advanced past host West Chester with a 5-0 victory in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team extended its win streak to 10 matches and improved to 12-2 overall. The Vulcans will now face rival IUP in the PSAC Championship for the fourth-straight year tomorrow, Friday, April 18, at 12 p.m. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams finish the year with a 10-10 record after advancing to the semifinals of the league tournament for the first time since 2011.

The Vulcans utilized a unique doubles lineup on Thursday, as they were playing without senior Lucie Sipkova (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Pardubice Mozartova). Junior Ramona Czakon (Trier, Germany/Tampereen Lyseon Lukio) and freshman Mariela Sarinana (Mexico City, Mexico/Miraflores) moved up to first doubles and extended their win streak to 10 matches with an 8-3 victory against Maddy Shaak and Nicole Fahringer. At the second position, freshman Kiefer Shaw (Westmount, Quebec/Centennial) and junior Jesse Burrell (Perth, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies' College) collected an 8-1 win over Abriana Nolan and Amalia Hartman. Junior Lucie Rey (Geneva, Switzerland/Colombieres), who was playing without her doubles partner Sipkova for the first time this year, teamed with freshman Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) to record an 8-0 victory at the third slot against Stephanie Cifarelli and Cassidy Branigan.

Cal U completed the match victory by winning both completed matches in singles play, while again shuffling the lineup without Sipkova. Mikulis blanked Nolan by a 6-0, 6-0 count for her 10th-consecutive victory while playing at the fourth position for the second time this year. In only her second singles match of the season, Burrell tallied a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Jami Dumler at the sixth slot.

The Vulcans look to capture their eighth-consecutive tournament title tomorrow against the rival Crimson Hawks in West Chester, Pa. Cal U has defeated IUP in each of the last three league championships, losing only match in the championship meetings.
