NOTES
• Cal U makes its first appearance in the PSAC Championship since 2009 on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Kutztown. Last week, the Vulcans scored 45 points over the final three quarters in a 52-7 win over Edinboro. Meanwhile, Kutztown rushed for over 200 yards in a 32-6 victory over Cheyney.

• The Vulcans claimed an outright PSAC West title last weekend with a 52-7 victory over then-No. 24 Edinboro. Cal U limited Edinboro only seven points and 231 yards of total offense after the Fighting Scots averaged nearly 43 points and 450 yards per game. Senior wide receiver Garry Brown finished with three touchdowns and 230 all-purpose yards, including a 53-yard punt return for touchdown. Junior quarterback Michael Keir passed for 254 yards and four touchdowns. Senior defensive back Arnel Farmer, Jr. led the team with eight tackles, while two other players tallied six stops.

• The Vulcans and Golden Bears are playing for only the third time since the 1997 season. Cal U and Kutztown previously played every year from 1990-97.

• With extensive coaching experience in Eastern Pennsylvania, Jim Clements is in his third season as head coach at Kutztown. He has posted a 20-12 record with the Golden Bears (16-5 versus the PSAC East) after spending the previous eight years as head coach at Delaware Valley. While at DVC, he led the Aggies to four conference championships from 2008-11, highlighted by an undefeated regular season in 2011.

• Kutztown enters the PSAC Championship after posting an undefeated record in PSAC East play for the first time in program history. The Golden Bears rank second in the league and No. 14 in the country with 243.9 rushing yards per game. Sophomore Craig Reynolds sits second in the PSAC with 1,151 rushing yards despite totaling only 12 carries in each of the last two weeks. Senior Darrell Scott and redshirt freshman Collin DiGalbo have both rushed for over 400 yards with DiGalbo posting eight rushing touchdowns. DiGalbo has also totaled over 1,400 passing yards and nine touchdowns while starting six games, all wins. Senior Kellen Williams leads the team with 710 receiving yards on 49 catches and also ranks seventh in the PSAC with eight receiving touchdowns. Sophomore Troy Parton paces the team with 50 receptions, while classmate Nathan Hollander has nearly 40 catches. Kutztown ranks among the top five in the 16-team league in both rushing defense (113.1 yards per game) and total defense (358.5 yards per game). Senior linebacker Zack Delp, a two-time All-PSAC East selection, leads the team and sits sixth in the PSAC with 88 tackles and has also registered 10.0 TFL and 3.5 sacks. Junior Ronny Tomasetti ranks among the top 10 in the league with team-best marks of 13.0 TFL and 7.5 sacks, while sophomore Jake Perry is tied for second in the PSAC with five interceptions. On special teams, the Golden Bears lead the league and rank among the top 10 in the country in kickoff return defense at 15.5 yards per return.

• The latest Super Region One rankings were released on Monday and half of the teams from last week were in new positions. Cal U jumped one spot to first and Shepherd climbed to second, while LIU Post dropped two spots to third. The region consists of four conferences - PSAC, MEC, CIAA and NE-10. The regional playoffs feature seven teams and only the top team in the final regional rankings will receive a first-round bye.

• Cal U remained at No. 6 in the AFCA Top 25 poll this week, as the program has matched its highest position in the poll since 2012 when it was ranked as high as No. 6 in the country for three-straight weeks. The Vulcans boast a 27-7 all-time record when featured in the top 10 of the AFCA poll with three of the losses coming during the NCAA Playoffs.

• The Vulcans are making their first appearance in the PSAC Championship since consecutive appearances in 2008-09. Meanwhile, Kutztown returns to the State Game for the first time since 2011. The State Game was reinstated in 2008 and until last year the home team had won every game. Cal U has posted a 2-1-1 record in the PSAC Championship, while Kutztown holds a 1-1 mark in the State Game.

• In the preseason divisional polls, Cal U was picked to finish third in the PSAC West and Kutztown was chosen fourth in the PSAC East. The Vulcans returned 18 starters from the previous year while featuring a first-year head coach. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears returned 16 starters from a team that finished second in the PSAC East in 2015.

• Senior Garry Brown scored three touchdowns (one punt return) last week against Edinboro, marking the fourth time this year he has posted three touchdowns. He ranks fifth in the country this season with 12.7 points per game and sits third with 16 touchdown receptions. In addition, Brown has found the end zone on a rushing attempt, kickoff return and punt return this season.

• The Vulcans feature a group of 15 seniors in 2016. The senior class has compiled a record of 32-9 and has started a combined 251 games. Offensive lineman Tyler Peerson is the team's active leader with 41 starts, while defensive backs Jordan Bowman and Aaron Terry, along with offensive lineman Zach Morehead, have each made at least 30 starts in their careers.

• The champion in three of the four conferences in Super Region One will be decided with title games on Saturday. In the CIAA, Winston-Salem State will face Bowie State in a rematch of last year's championship, while the NE-10 features Assumption against LIU Post in a rematch from earlier this season. In the MEC, Shepherd has already clinched at least a share of the league title and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

• In his first year as a starter, junior quarterback Michael Keir ranks seventh in the nation with both 30 touchdown passes and a 171.5 passing efficiency. He is only the fourth quarterback in school history to throw 30 touchdowns in a season, all since 2008. Keir has thrown at least one touchdown in all nine games this year, including six games of three or more scores.

• Cal U offensive lineman Christian DiGalbo will be facing his twin brother, Collin, this weekend, as Collin is the starting quarterback for Kutztown. Both brothers redshirted last season after serving as the starting center and quarterback at Bonner-Prendie. Collin has led the Golden Bears to victories in each of his six starts this year, while Christian has appeared in all but one game this season for the Vulcans.

• Junior kicker Will Brazill and junior offensive lineman Taylor Nikithser were both selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last week. Brazill, who is majoring in parks and recreation management, leads all kickers in the PSAC this season with 10.2 points per game. A sport management major, Nikithser helps anchor an offensive line that has helped Cal U lead NCAA Division II with 52.4 points per game.

• Senior defensive backs Jordan Bowman and Aaron Terry each recorded an interception last weekend against Edinboro. Bowman and Terry are tied for No. 11 among active players in NCAA Division II with 13 career interceptions, which are the most by a Cal U player since Terrence Johnson (2006-09). The duo has combined for over 450 interception return yards and also scored a combined five touchdowns in their careers.

• This weekend the Vulcans will be playing a LIVE televised game through a partnership with SPORTSfever. The game will be airing live on affiliates across Pennsylvania and will also be available on ESPN3, as Cal U is making its third appearance this season on ESPN3.
